Okay, ‘Ecclesia-nomics’ is just a fancy made-up word to highlight how certain aspects of the church’s identity, beliefs and practice actually address some of the common challenges people face in society today.
Yes, we acknowledge that the church has its own particular challenges. However, we still believe that it has a lot to offer people who want to see, and experience positive changes in their lives, and society at large. Jesus referred to believers as ‘salt, light, a city on a hill’ (Matt 5: 13-16) – something about who they are and how they function (when they seek to please him!) is to have a positive impact on others, if not set the example by which they should live by!
The messages will have both churchgoers and non-churchgoers in mind, so no one will feel left out. Stimulating talks and workshops, will help to remind us of just how relevant the church is to the needs of ordinary people, and the significant role it plays in creating prosperous societies.
Starting Sunday January 5th 2014, 10.30am, and in our morning services for the next few months, we will exploring answers to questions like:
- ‘What’s Evangelism got to do with Social Change?
- What’s Biblical Stewardship got to do with Your Bank Balance?’
- ‘What has Discipleship got to do with Education and Learning?’
- ‘What’s Fellowship got to do with Social Capital?’
- ‘‘What’s Authority got to do with Law and Order?’
We will also have a few guest speakers give talks on issues related to the theme … You don’t want to miss this series @ The Chapel!
We are grateful for the work entitled ‘Christian Ethics’ (edited by Stanley Hauerwas and Samuel Wells), which was instrumental in developing this theme.
