You’ve probably watched ‘Come Dine with Me’, the Channel 4 TV programme in which complete strangers take turns to host a dinner party for each other- and in the process get to know one another better. Well, this is similar to what the Lord’s Supper (also referred to as ‘Holy Communion’ or ‘Sacrament’) aims to achieve. It offers people the opportunity to get to know God, themselves, and others better.
For some, the celebration of the Lord’s Supper is just another routine church activity that has very little bearing on ‘life in the real world’. However, for many others it offers the hope of encountering God afresh, and becoming better equipped to face life – with all it challenges!
In this month’s sermon series we’ll be looking at the spiritual and practical benefits of the Lord’s Supper as it is celebrated with faith and anticipation of the supernatural. We will also be echoing Jesus’ invitation to ‘come and dine’ with him (see Jn 21:12)! Topics to be covered include:
- ‘Communion, and “the still small voice”‘ – The hope of encountering God
- ‘Soul Food’ – The hope of spiritual nourishment
- ‘Table manners’ – The hope of spiritual transformation and renewal
- ‘Food, ‘Glorious’ Food!’ – The hope of Heaven and the New Creation
These messages promise to be both inspiring and challenging. They aim to help people encounter God anew as they reflect on the Lord’s Supper in a fresh and dynamic way.
Come, dine with us this July @ The Chapel!
